11. What is the difference between Counselling and Psychotherapy?
Counselling and psychotherapy share the goal of improving mental health and wellbeing, but they differ in depth, duration, and focus:
Counselling is generally short to mid-term and focuses on practical strategies for current challenges. It helps clients manage stress, navigate life transitions, and develop coping skills. This approach is often solution-focused and present-oriented.
Psychotherapy is typically longer-term and explores deeper patterns, unconscious processes, and lifelong issues. It addresses complex emotional, relational, and existential concerns, aiming for profound personal growth and transformation.
Leading professional bodies—including ACA, APA, UKCP, BACP, PACFA, and others—agree on this distinction:
Counselling = support for specific issues and practical goals
Psychotherapy = in-depth work on underlying patterns and meaning
At Inner Alchemy, we offer both, tailoring the approach to your needs—whether you’re seeking short-term support or depth/shadow work.
12. Do you offer crisis support or emergency services?
Inner Alchemy does NOT provide crisis or emergency services. If you are in immediate danger or experiencing a mental health emergency, please contact:
